Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are you prepared to give tuition to the owner on a delivery trip?
A. Absolutely, we have delivered numerous boats with the owner on board and enjoy the experience very much.
Q. Who pays for the fuel?
A. If the vessel is a power boat then the client will be pay for the fuel. Before the delivery starts we will give a costing and this amount will be paid. At the end of the delivery the balance can be sorted out.
If the delivery is of a sailing vessel then World Yachting Asia will pay for all the fuel having allowed for the cost in the delivery price. The fuel tanks though will initially be filled at the owner’s expense.
Q. Can I bring other guests to enjoy the delivery journey?
A. Yes, the more the merrier.
Q. Do you supply everything needed for a delivery?
A. We supply almost everything apart from a life raft and flare pack. If these are not on board then we can organise them for the client with additional cost to the client.
Q. What is the procedure if there are any damages?
A. In the unlikely event that there are any damages we have plenty of experience to fix many of the breakages that may occur. Constant observation and maintenance checks are carried out during the delivery; this is vital that a vessel delivered in tact together with sensible sailing and motoring.
If it’s not possible to fix a breakage at sea then it is done in port either by World Yachting Asia or organised through suitable technicians. Failing this it is documented on the comprehensive report issued at the completion of the delivery.
Q. Do you really need to bring your pilots, charts, and other navigational devices?
A. Most vessels do not have those required for the delivery trip. We also bring along our own GPS, EPIRB and VHF radio more as a backup as most vessels do have these instruments on board. This then makes us self sufficient and confident that we have everything we require.
Q. What is Celestial Navigation, do you teach it and do I need it?
A. Yes we teach it, although Celestial Navigation is now regarded as old-fashioned now we have so many advanced electronic devices, we still keenly navigate using the sun, planets, stars, and moon – it’s an old technique but still trusted and a lot of fun to understand.
Q. How long does a boat delivery usually take?
A. It depends on the distance involved, the boat and the season. At the point when we give a quotation for delivery we try to give the owner an estimate of how the delivery will be made. This includes the mapping of the intended route, the time we expect to do the delivery, and what weather we expect to encounter.
Q. Do World Yachting Asia insure the boat whilst delivered?
A. No. We have third party insurance but the boat has to be insured for the delivery by the client. However, medical cover is the responsibility of the individual crew member.
